Remember, we welcome candidates from all backgrounds and undergraduate grade levels. The IFC has a strong commitment to academic excellence and will not permit anyone under a 2.50 cumulative GPA (NO EXCEPTIONS) to participate in rush or join a brotherhood. This threshold is strictly enforced by OSA/FSL (OFSA) and is a general requirement of most national fraternity organizations. Students that have barely achieved this benchmark are assigned an academic advisor to ensure the fraternal experience does not detract from a strong education in the classroom.
Don't forget to check out the newest member of the IFC - the Adelphi Society, which has joined the IFC as a social/literary organization and welcomes both male and female recruits. If an undergraduate woman is interested in joining a co-ed fraternity, they must also register for recruitment.

Members of the IFC and Panhellenic Councils met Tuesday night to discuss the challenges that the Greek Community will face in coming years. It is our hope that all members of UPenn Greek organizations will take a few moments to share their thoughts on the most urgent areas of undergraduate life that our councils can improve for its constituents.
Every five years, the IFC publishes a strategic plan. This plan is meant to outline issues that will be addressed by initiatives put in place by incoming and future council members. This year concludes the most recent five-year period, and thus, we must establish a meaningful plan for the next. To that end, we ask that leaders of our member organizations and leaders of other organizations who are either Greek themselves or have close ties to the Greek community will participate in surveys that we have recently constructed and are now ready for release. These surveys are to gauge sentiment regarding various undergraduate issues with a special emphasis on Greek life. What have you enjoyed, what needs improvement—where should we go from here? By participating in these internet surveys, you will be instrumental in shaping Greek life for years to come, from event registration and University alcohol policies to programming, philanthropy and membership benefits—your input is absolutely crucial to the process.
Please encourage your members to participate in these short surveys, and we look forward to your participation and collaboration in the coming months.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Greek Community,
This years election season is upon us, and it is time to elect new student leaders to student government. Accordingly the IFC board has solicited applications from UA and Class Board candidates asking questions about each person's dedication to Greek life and our policies. Based on their responses and occasionally whether or not they are affiliated in a fraternity or sorority, IFC has decided to endorse the following candidates for student government. By casting your vote for these candidates, we can be sure that Greek policy is at the forefront of University agenda in the UA and help fellow Greeks cultivate their leadership skills in class board positions.
You may note some fraternities or sororities are represented several times on these endorsements, but this is a reflections of the candidates who turned in the IFC application and is as objective as possible. IFC will only endorse an application submitting candidate, and therefore some positions have been omitted from endorsements.

Fellow Greek leaders and members:
Only in the past week has it come to our attention that various administrative offices within the University appear to be actively pursuing this mandatory live-in GA proposal. This proposal was handed down to the IFC/Panhellenic Council with little if any consultation with Greek community leaders, which will be most directly affected by the proposal. While we acknowledge that some houses have requested GAs or have agreed to a limited program as a condition in an Agreement of Responsibility, we feel that applying this policy to the entire Greek community would be deeply problematic. We do not believe the proposal achieves the goals the Greek community and the University share for the fraternity and sorority system. Furthermore, we feel that the administration has not fully consulted the student leaders who best understand the foundations and internal dynamics of Greek organizations.
After two nights of Greek “Town Hall” meetings and long discussions, the executive boards of the Interfraternity Council and Panhellenic Council (under the guidance of UA Chairman AlecWebley) began pursuing different avenues in order to express the Penn community’s deep concern with regards to installing live-in advisors at chapter houses. Fortunately the University has been very receptive to our worries. The Office of the President assisted the leaders of the Greek Councils in contacting various administrative branches of Penn.
It was not until the Councils’ meeting with VPUL this afternoon that we were able to get a better understanding of the current situation. According to Dr. Ajay Nair, a previously scheduled meeting for this evening to discuss live-in graduate advisors at Greek houses has now been canceled until this matter is sufficiently resolved. The office reaffirmed their aim to include students as well as faculty and administration in the decision making process with regards to this and any other future policy decision that would affect us.
Currently VPUL has no long term plans for the implementation of live-in graduate advisors in our chapter houses. There are certain instances where an agreement has been made between national fraternity offices and OFSA where a GA is required, but Greek houses around Penn overall will continue to enjoy the freedom of choice. The IFC will work with chapters to ensure that this is on a temporary basis and does not serve as a precedent for a policy to blanket the rest of the Greek community without our consent. It is important, however, to recognize the underlying rationale for such a program and strive to achieve the University’s goals through improved programming. To that end, the Greek Councils will be working in conjunction with OFSA and VPUL in order to dedicate the necessary resources to this large aspect of student life.
While the Councils feel that we made significant progress in opening the channels of communication to dispel any rumors about this proposed policy and bring Greek leadership to the discussion, it is important for fraternities and sororities to work even harder to set an example for the rest of the Penn community. Our sovereignty relies on the amount of responsibility and initiative we take for the Greek community’s actions.
As an additional note, today’s stride towards an improved relationship between the Greek community and Penn administration would not be possible without the help of Alec Webley, Jeff Fronek and the executive boards of the Greek Councils and the presidents from each fraternity and sorority at Penn. I would also like to send my gratitude to Dr. Scott Reikofski, Dr. Ajay Nair and Leah Popowich for their continued support of our councils. Thank you all for your help.
Cheers,
Christian Lunoe

It is with great pleasure that the Interfraternity Council can report that through combined efforts with Penn Medicine and the Junto Society, we were able to raise over $14,000 for Haiti relief aid.
On Saturday, February 13, 2010 the Interfraternity Council co-organized a 3 versus 3 basketball tournament and happy hour with student groups (both undergraduate and graduate) from across the University. Money was raised through tournament registration fees, a raffle, sponsorships and cover charge for the happy hour.
All proceeds will go to CARE, one of the world's largest private international humanitarian organizations, committed to helping families in poor communities improve their lives and achieve lasting victories over poverty. It has been a leading humanitarian organization fighting global poverty. Currently they have more than 150 staff in Haiti distributing water purification packets, food and other lifesaving aid to survivors.
